Our story

In 1966, a young couple moved to Detroit, Michigan to start their new life.

After finishing his medical training, the husband served as a cardiologist in the greater Pontiac area for almost fifty years, and his wife trained as a Montessori school teacher and taught for ten years.

Both of them believed in the opportunity and promise of good health and a good education, to help people and their families succeed and grow.

our purpose

Years later, after they had raised their family, they thought about what they wanted to do – and realized that they wanted to give back in ways they understood – healthcare and education.

After some discussion, they realized they wanted to support efforts to improve healthcare and education for as many people as possible.

Looking across the globe, they realized that many countries had solutions for healthcare and education that worked in their circumstances, and that some might even work in the United States – similarly, they saw some solutions in the United States might work in other countries.

So we established the Mathew Foundation, with the mission of helping others - in the ways we believe they would have wanted it done - to help people help each other.
